“Fly fishing is an angling method in which an artificial “fly” is used to catch fish. The fly is cast using a fly rod, reel, and specialized weighted line. Casting a nearly weightless fly or “lure” requires casting techniques significantly different from other forms of casting. Fly fishermen use hand tied flies that resemble natural invertebrates, baitfish, other food organisms, or “lures” to provoke the fish to strike” (wikipedia).

Three Day Four Nights Guided Fly Fishing course for beginners and improving fly fishing anglers.

Novice Fly Fishing Angler Courses
This is an introduction to the wonderful art of fly-fishing. We cover the basics to understand the biological process from the aquatic flies to the trout that eats them, introducing materials to casting your first fly. We will supply the equipment, provide fly casting instruction and have you wading out in the river and from a driftboat to fish.

Day 1 Day 1 Arrival at the McKenzie River Inn
Guests/students are met by McKenzie River Inn staff at the Resort. Guests will be checked in and escorted to their cabins. An evening orientation meeting will be held in the lodge and trip itineraries will be distributed. Welcome dinner served.

Day 2 Fly Fishing Course
The perfect way to enjoy a taste of Fly Fishing. The morning session provides an introduction to the world of fly fishing with a video presentation, followed by a class about equipment, casting, basic knowledge about conditions, flies and fishing techniques. Knot tying, reading the water to find the fish, set up your tackle correctly, cast competently, how to choose equipment and the correct fly. We have you cast a fly in the river after lunch! Either walk and wade or fishing from a historic wooden McKenzie driftboat. In the evening we let ourselves be pampered with one of the exquisite dishes prepared by our French trained Chef De Cuisine.

Day 3 Fly Fishing Course
After breakfast we gear up and take off to one of the many boat launches on the river. Here we have a more in depth introduction to fly fishing. Once on the water we are fishing eddies and practice drift fishing. This day provides all the necessary intuition to get fishing and of course the chance to relax in the beautiful surroundings of the Pacific North West. By mid afternoon our goal is to have guests casting and catching. After a day of fishing from a drift boat, we enjoy a local prepared dinner on site. In the evening we socialize and go over the day events and enjoy the comfort of the resort.

Day 4 Fly Fishing Course
A consecutive day of fly-fishing from a drift boat after breakfast. Our goal here is to prepare you with enough instruction that you will be able to fish on your own. Most of the day will be spent fine tuning your casting and recognizing what flies to use. We introduce fishing with dry and wet flies (nymphs) and fish those in tandem. If the conditions allow, we stop for a walk and wade session during our trip down the river while your guide is preparing lunch.
In the evening, we wrap up the whole course and go over your mastery of the class while we have the pleasure of another dinner prepared by our Chef De Cuisine.

Day 5 Departure

During breakfast we evaluate the course and your experience with instructors and staff before everyone pack up their belongings from the cabins and goes their way.

$1,550.00/guest, double occupancy*
add $1,025.00 for a single occupancy cabin*
