July 9-13 The Art of Fly Fishing Double workshop – Custom Leather Reel Case workshop with Annie Margarita and Fly-fishing with Bert de Klerk
Annie Margarita leads students through a custom designed reel case course and Bert de Klerk takes you fishing! Students will learn to make patterns, cut and tool leather, staining and painting and hand stitch their own reel case. In the afternoons, get on board a historic McKenzie Drift boat and go fly fishing!
Day 1 Day 1 Arrival at the McKenzie River Inn
Guests/students are met by McKenzie River Inn staff at the Resort. Guests will be checked in and escorted to their cabins. An evening orientation meeting will be held in the lodge and trip itineraries will be distributed. Welcome dinner served.
Day 2 Reel Case Course and Half Day Drift boat
Fish and take home your own reel case. The morning session provides instruction on leather patterns cutting and carving a unique pattern into your reel case. As these dry, we have you cast a fly from a historic wooden McKenzie drift boat in the afternoon. In the evening we let ourselves be pampered with one of the exquisite dishes prepared by our French trained Chef De Cuisine. Evening demonstrations – Fly tying and entomology. Bonfire by the river.
Day 3 Reel Case Course and Half Day Drift boat
After breakfast, we stain and paint our reel cases. More fishing on the McKenzie Drift boat in the afternoon. In the evening, another great meal prepared by our French trained Chef De Cuisine. Evening demonstrations – Fly tying and entomology. Bonfire by the river.
Day 4 Reel Case Course and Half Day Drift boat
We enjoy another great breakfast on the patio, then sew and add the finishing touches to your custom reel case. Back on the boat to catch that whopper! Finish the day with another great meal and bonfire!

During breakfast we admire your finery and your experience with the river before everyone pack up their belongings from the cabins and goes their way.
